Many thanks to everyone that submitted the beautiful scenery pictures for next year's Ola Community calendar. It was a very hard decision however only twelve could be selected. Ola has some great photographers but of course we have plenty of beauty to work with.

As you know, I chose not to run for re-election and recently started exploring other options. An opportunity has presented itself much sooner than I was expecting. As such, I have been offered employment elsewhere which requires my resignation from office effective Sept. 24, 2012, at 8 a.m. "Thank you for the opportunity to have served as a Gem County Commissioner. Have you seen a big white dog? Ollie has not been seen by Mike S. for approx. nine days. It's not unusual for Mike and Ollie to miss each other for four or five days, but nine days is concerning. If you happen to spot him, please call. Don't try to approach him, he's very shy and probably frightened. Call Mike at 584-9302

Incident Overview posted about 1 1/2 hours ago by inciweb
Residents to the north and east of the fire are asked to remain
vigilant. The Rocky Mountain Type 1 Incident Management Team is
coordinating with Boise County and Garden Valley Fire Department to
establish comprehensive evacuation plans for the area north and east of
the fire. These plans are being established in the event that the fire
continues to push to the north and east.
Public and firefighter
safety is our first priority. The public is asked to not travel on
roads north and east of the fire area to where the firefighters are
working. With today's predicted weather, if fire activity does increase,
public and firefighter safety may be compromised.
There are currently NO evacuations in place. Plans are being prepared in the event that an evacuation is necessary

GCFD#2 spent Friday battling a lightening caused fire on the Butte west of Little's corrals, aka Big Cottonwood Creek area. Thanks to an observant Bob L. the strikes were seen and the fire was called in within minutes. Both Ola and Sweet responded along with a BLM dozer, a helicopter and a retardant plane. With this quick response the fire was contained to approx. 10 acres. The location of the fire was extremely difficult to access by trucks. Thanks guys!!

If you've noticed that the older horse is gone from the pasture by the highway, don't worry she is alive and doing well. Pokey has been moved to where it is more convenient to care for her. Turns out she doesn't care much for goats either, go figure.
